ART WITH KATE

Today we did some shape art with Kate Buckley.  Kate called out different shapes that we had to draw on a piece of paper.  Then we had to see if we could find the letters of our name within our picture.

We also drew the letters of our name onto card, cut them out and stuck them on to either a 3d triangle or a tube.

We had a great morning!

MAKING GLOOP

Today in room 2 we made gloop.  We were trying to find out what would happen when we combined a liquid and a solid, cornflour and water.  We made predictions whether the cornflour would stay a solid or if the water would turn it into a liquid.  Here are some photos of the process.

We discovered that we could roll the mixture into a ball in our hands but then it melted back into a liquid.  This was because the particles separated once we stopped rolling it in our hands.

Shape and Science

This term our other strand focus for maths is Shape.  So far we have been learning about identifying 2 D shapes and making them.

Our topic is `We Are Scientists'.  We are conducting a variety of experiments based on the `scientific process'. Today we were making parachutes and we discussed what would make some better than others and what we could do to make improvements.  We talked about surface area and air resistance.

Here are some photos from week 1.

FAIRY TALES

This term we have been learning about fairy tales.  They have to have characters, settings, a problem, and a solution.  Here are some examples of ones we have written ourselves.

Once upon a time there lived a dragon and a knight.  They lived in a castle.  The dragon could fly.  The dragon got sick.  The knight felt sorry for the dragon.  Then the dragon felt better because the knight found a secret potion for him.

Once upon a time there lived a princess and a knight.  They lived in a kingdom.  Her birthday came and the fairies gave her a dress and she loved it.  One day an evil queen cast a spell on her.  The knight came along and killed the queen and saved the princess by breaking the spell.
By Isabel

Once upon a time there lived a dragon named Zanda and a knight named Venom.
Zandar and Venom lived in a cave near a castle.
Zandar's teeth and Venom's sword were on fire but luckily Zandar could handle the fire in his mouth.  An army came with spears and swords and attacked Zandar and Venom.
Zandar and Venom felt surprised, they had not seen an army before.
Zandar and Venom fought them with their teeth and sword and they won.
